Stag Weekend

Location & Activities
We have found a cottage for the weekend!

The Old Dairy
Strides House, West Tytherley, Wiltshire SP5 1LD
Sleeps: 9/11 + cot

The Old Dairy

Ben has done us proud and found an excellent cottage in Wiltshire, just north of the New Forest. The owners actually don't know it's a stag weekend and are terrified of broken furniture (so we'll try not to do that) so Ben has included a Danielle and Nicola on the guest list etc... . Here's what the brochure says about the place:

In the heart of rolling Wiltshire countryside, a mile and a half from the pretty village of West Tytherley, this extremely spacious cottage has been converted with immense care from the former dairy. Situated on a 60 acre farm it is some way from the main farmhouse and is therefore private and very quiet. There is much in the area to see and do. The sheep are particularly docile and very pretty.  Within half an hour's drive are the historic cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, Broadlands House, former home of Lord Mountbatten, Mottisfont Abbey and Garden, Marwell Zoo, Stonehenge and The New Forest , ideal for walking, riding, cycling and picnics. Also within easy driving distance is Portsmouth, home of the Tudor warship, The Mary Rose, and Nelson's H.M.S. Victory. The Old Dairy retains much of its original character; there are many original beams and timbers, old pine and flagstone floors and very tasteful decoration, fittings and furnishings throughout, with enormous attention to detail.

Kitchen

Stable door entrance into large, beamed sitting room with open fireplace containing a wood burner with extra double studio couch for alternative sleeping. Through double doors into large beamed dining room with large dining table to seat 12. Down two steps from sitting room to a spacious kitchen/breakfast room open to roof height. Utility room. Shower room/w.c. Downstairs bedroom with a double bed and 2 extra put-u-up beds. Upstairs: 4 bedrooms - 1 double with en suite bathroom/w.c., 2 further twins and 1 single. Main Victorian bathroom/w.c. Large attractive, enclosed courtyard garden with terrace, lawn and barbecue area.

Lounge

Estimated cost of accommodation is £85 each for the three nights, based on ten of us coming along on the weekend. We will set up a kitty for food and booze so that we can buy in bulk (!) and keep the cost down.

Schedule of Events
Friday 30th June 2000
Arrive at the cottage afternoon to early evening.
Mat, Izzy and  I will aim to get there by about 3pm to start setting up the  place, and will shop for food etc. On Friday night the plan is to have a big boozy dinner and play one of those Murder Mystery games, which will probably just degenerate into a beer circle and many forfeits. Aim to push on till dawn with videos and Playstation. We'll be sending out details of peoples characters in the game in the next few days.
Please bring enough booze for Friday night with you - we'll sort out a kitty and shop for the rest of the weekend when we are all there.

Saturday 1st July 2000
Hangover City. Can't quite drink like we used to, hmmm?
The medics among us will try to bring a good supply of drugs to keep us alive.
Nick has found a paintballing venue in Wimbourne where we can get a whole day's shooting in for £50 per person including 500 rounds, which is pretty good value. We'll leave at 08:30 Saturday morning - it's a 45 minute drive to the paintball place - and spend a few hours shooting the shit out of each other.
Saturday evening I thought we'd check out a few local pubs and drink a lot of beer.

Sunday 2nd July 2000
Pain really getting quite bad now.
Not sure about events for Sunday... Nick & Ben may get some karting arranged, but bearing in mind the state we'll be in by then, a lie-in followed by Sunday lunch in a nice pub would probably be a better plan. If the weather is good we'll have a BBQ instead.
Some people will leave on Sunday, but a few of us are planning to stay till Monday morning and see the weekend through!!

The cottage is located halfway between Salisbury and Winchester. I've received the local directions from Ben, which are listed below the map.  I'll have my mobile with me, so phone for directions when you get close if there are any problems.

Directions from Ben...

The Old Dairy, Strides House, West Tytherley, Nr. Salisbury,  Wilts SP5 1LD.
From the M25 join the M3 going south. Come off Junction with A303.
Take first turning left signposted Micheldever Station.
End of slip road turn right and immediately left, which is signposted to Sutton Scotney and Stockbridge. Continue to Stockbridge.
Drive through Stockbridge in the Salisbury direction and about 3/4 mile out of Stockbridge, turn left at a signpost to Broughton. Go to the centre of the village and by the Greyhound Pub, bear right. About 500 yards on,  turn left at the T- junction and take the first signposted turning on the right to East and  West Tytherley.  After about half a mile you enter East Tytherley. At the next T-junction turn right, then take the first turning right to Stony Batter.  (Note - not fanny!) Strides House is the first house on the left in Stony Batter. If you are first to arrive the keys can be picked up here. To get to The Old Dairy, go past Strides House, and take the first left turning up a narrow lane going uphill. The Old Dairy is a red brick building about 100 yards further along on your left.
